Schmidt Family Vineyards 2014 Syrah

This is a nice example of Southern Oregon Syrah showing ripe fruit, but keeping it in line with a solid acidic structure along with notes of earth and spice. On the nose, aromas of blackberry jam and new shoe leather mix with notes of clove spice, a touch of smoke and black licorice. On the palate, flavors of boysenberry and red plum are nicely framed with acidity, then notes of graphite, black pepper and ground coriander are revealed on an unhurried finish. This wine is sure to be great with grilled meats or a seared duck breast.
